I just saw this today and wondered if NGC just started doing this or has it been around a while? It is a first day of issue sticker from NGC.

That is crazy! The first day of issue has nothing to do with the date the coin was minted. I am sure they were minted well in advance of the actual release date.

I know this thread is designed to make fun of these stickers, but collectors like government packaging. Combining the elements of professional grading while maintaining the OGP has been a long time coming.

Now let me be clear, I am not defending the FDOI label, and I think that all of those gimmicks are rather dumb, but if NGC started doing this, eventually it might lead to a sticker that provides individual grades while keeping the OGP.

ANACS created their own multi-coin slab for mint sets with individual grades (see photos below), so it seems only a matter of time before these stickers start to include numerical grading.

Personally, I have no desire to collect modern mint or proof sets unless I can have the coins graded, but having each coin slabbed consumes to much space. If NGC had either a multi-coin holder or used a sticker on the OGP, I might consider collecting the quarters.

All of those tags are for merchandizing only. The "First Strike" is the worst of all. The US Mint is right now striking coins for 2024. They will be packaged and stored until release. Next year the sticker collectors will be paying premiums for First Strike coins that were pulled at random from inventory.

Well, I did like how they kept the original GSA holders when the graded GSA hoard coins. They used stickers for those.

That would be Advanced Releases. FDOI is only available to dealers and the coins must arrive at the TPGC within a specified period of time.
If I send mine day I recieved still sealed, best I can get is First or Early Releases.
