See how the doubling goes into 2 different directions on different letters of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE CENT? What is this? MD or doubling? Maybe both?
Yes, I noticed that too. Also some of the doubled die on other years of coins show the shelf like doubling as well, but it depends on the direction of the spread on whether it is a doubled die. That is what is confusing me.
I still struggle with the MD vs. DD. The "Shelf Like" doubling still gets me, because as Sheila said, some true DD's also have the subtle doubling that looks shelf like as well. I would hate to pass up a DD because it looks too similar to a MD coin.
If I'm uncertain I save them. If they are just really cool looking I save tbem too. After time passes I take them out and examine them again. As I learn more I weed out the junk.
Me too. That is exactly what I do. Most of the MD's I have learned, but some still get me. If I posted every single one that confused me, it would drive everyone crazy lol! Only if I am very unsure do I post it.
With the shelf like Doubled die, you have to know what direction it goes to know for sure. That's the ones that get me.
