A recent purchase , a nice Antoninus Pius denarius MONETA Rev with a lovely bust of the emperor. Rome c140-144 (17mm 3.0g ) possibly RIC 76 ?

Great addition @Tony1982 . I like the portraits on A-Pi denarii.

    Here is mine.

@Tony1982 -- I tried to check the reference and noticed something. I can't find any other examples or references with a draped obverse bust. Of at least these 35 examples in ACSearch (plus others with different search strings) or RIC 76A and RIC 76B as listed on OCRE, every example is just a laureate head, not a draped bust.

I don't have an RIC III hard copy to double-check though. I haven't checked ERIC II yet. But draped busts are relatively uncommon on Antoninus Pius denarii. (There are a few.)

I don't specialize in these, so I could've missed something, but if genuine, I wonder if it's a mule, or fourree, or a particularly rare or unpublished type?

Thanks I tried checking online myself and nothing came up with a draped bust. It would be interesting to find another type with a similar obv.
It doesn’t appear to be a forgery or fourree , the weights good at 3.0 g but I can’t be 100%.

Yes, it is RIC III Rome 76, but apparently an unlisted bust type-- laureate and draped. RIC lists (a) bare head (b) draped, head bare (c) laureate head right.

It would be very nice if it turned out to be an unlisted variant

The laureate and draped bust type is scarce but attested in the literature. Strack (no. 107) cites specimens in Munich, Stuttgart, and Sofia. BMCRE cites Strack in a footnote to no. 220. It's RSC 557c, citing Strack as well. See also Portable Antiquities Scheme (LVPL-01AF10), below.
