I bought this coin on eBay for $11 for the iridescent toning, but was pleasantly surprised by the steps and the very minor RPM. The RPM is very minor and exceedingly hard to photograph, but it looks exactly like the photos from variety vista. Unfortunately, there are no supporting diagnostics and NGC doesn't attribute this variety, but I am still going to submit it hoping for MS66 5FS. Photo #1: Coin angled into the direct lighting. Photo #2: Coin angled away from light to show irisescence. Photo #3: Steps Photo #4: RPM-009 Photo #5: Variety Vista photo Let me know what you think about the RPM attribution, grade, and steps.
I joined that CONECA site just to see if I could get a mm attributed and it turned out to be machine doubling. I guess they are right but nowhere else on the die was machine doubled. NADA. Anyway, they were very polite and explained that a mintmark is added onto the die and can have some isolated MD like it did. I thought I had a triple punched mintmark. Still it's a neat coin. All that has nothing to do with your very nice P/P 1944 Jefferson. I would run it by those guys, maybe you have something unlisted and can claim your fame with the discovery. Yours is clearly an RPM. A very nice nickel there Lehigh!
Have you tried Wexlers? He has coneca -004 as WRPM-001 And shows plenty of die markers. I would think that it is a little baggy for a 66, but still if the luster is there than it could go a 66 IMO. My major concern is the light clash that looks like it was abraded on the reverse. That usually holds the grade back.
The steps are very nice but technically I don't think they are full. Great coin. Would need a better photo.
