The title says is all! Are you a fan of the toning on this boone commemorative or do you think it is un-appealing? I am thinking about crossing it over to pcgs because the clear plastic on this ngc holder has an "orange peel" texture and is scratched from previous owners. The combination of the two makes it annoying when trying to view the coin. Thanks for looking!

Reverse looks very nice but obverse not at all - at least to my tastes.

Just my opinion, but you asked. I'm not a fan of it either. But, I'm probably one of the few, I don't care for toning. But, the scratches are distracting, even if you like toning.

okbustchaser I may be old but I still appreciate a pretty bust Supporter

If you send it, ask to have it reverse holdered. That's the money side of this coin. It looks very nice.

I agree with the others about the reverse being the money side (very nice). The obverse is the more typical crusty original look you see on classic commemoratives. On its own, it’s neutral at best but combined with the other side, this is a premium toner.

Well, I'm a big fan of the early commemoratives, and I will tolerate "some" toning issues (but not this one ). I would not re-holder it; it won't improve the coin.

What I would do is try to refinish the plastic to make it more presentable in its current home. I have done this with both auto polishing compound, & a headlight refinishing kit, both with relative/adequate success; it depends on how bad the damage is, but you will be no worse off for trying.

Still, to me, it's the ugly type of toning, & you can't fix that.

    JMHO ;)

I dunno.......I think if @Artillery87 were to clean up the surface (obverse) of the holder (as Steve above suggests) the image would be much better......the focus is a bit out of wack because of those scratches. I like it. :)

This might not be the most popular answer here. But a quick dip would take all that ugly off. Then of course you would have to send it in for regrading.

    I'm old school.
The only toning I care for on silver is a light gray tarnish.
And copper in shades of brown.

One exception: Buffalo and Jefferson nickels can get a light (pastel) toning that I find pleasing.

Very nice! I'm in your boat.
I'm sort of Old school meets new school but definitely Not from your school.
I love the bluish hues on Nickels as well. I really like bluish/Redish hues on Silver coins.
Like this Quarter from my collection.
