I was looking through a bag of pre 1960 Jefferson nickels and came upon a 1944 with no mint mark. Wow, I thought I had a million-dollar mule coin. Turns out (according to Red Book) it is a known counterfeit. Bummer. Still a nice conversation piece.
I think I have this same die pair "Henning" nickel. There isn't a hole in the leg of the R in my nickel in PLURIBUS and is like yours. They look a little worn even in higher grades. There is plenty of info out there about the different dates that Henning counterfieted. I sent mine out about a month ago to ANACS for grading and certification as a "Henning" nickel which they will do. I think the no hole, is seen less often. Even though your nickel has that vertical scratch, it still has value. My guess is between $50 and $100. A popular collectible that seems to always be gaining in popularity. Congrats!
