Septimius Severus Cilicia, Aegae ? 193-211 AD Obverse: Portrait of Septimius Severus right Reverse: Portrait of Asclepius right References: SNG France 2338ff Size: 33mm, 25.51g Anyone see one like this before? Any other references available? Thank You
Interesting. There's a Commodus that looks similar: https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/coins/4/9754 The diameters for their 3 specimens are 38-39mm, and they're heavier, but the dies actually look like they might be about the same size (your flan is much more compact). Checking Isegrim, which doesn't have photos (though you can follow up on the refs given) there is one similar type for Septimius. The weight (25.5g) fits as well. The reference specimen is: SNG Pfalz vol 6, no. 61. I don't think you can link specific records, but you can search it again using the info below: http://isegrim.dasr.de/isegrim_neu/ Coin description(22626) Province, Region: CILICIA PEDIAS Place of minting: AEGEAE Minting period: Between 193 and 194 Obverse Type: PORTRAIT MAN R / SEPT.
