A 1950 PF64 Washington I was pleasantly surprised with. Part of a project to assemble a "homemade" '50 proof set. Already done that with 1942. Last year before WWII and the year of resumption. I am taking donations to do the 1936 proof set.
Where can I find a non-overpriced 1851-O half dollar? I look on Ebay and they are priced at like $250 for G examples, five times as much as they should go for according to price guide. I can understand market > price guide in some cases, like 1863-67 S half dimes and dimes, but something like this is ridiculous. Just to prove my point http://www.ebay.com/sch/Coins-US/253/i.html?LH_BIN=1&_from=R40&_nkw=1851+o+half+dollar&_sop=15
In some sales from the big auction houses, I have seen eye-popping bidding on totally worn-out coins. I guess the assembling of low-ball sets is behind it. What the markets demand, the sellers will get, price guides or not.
Here are 2 Morgans that one of my favorite dealers had a special on. The obverse pictures could be better.
Not a huge fan of graded eagles but I couldn't resist the price. And a cool book too. I didn't buy this because it was missing pages from the back and really was just a book length spreadsheet but it was cool to see. Year ending June 1863, printed in 1864.
