Has anyone seen this in a 1948 cent? 1946 S is the only other wheat cent with an inverted mint mark and a listing in PCGS. It is also from San Francisco. I can't find this inverted S 1948 listed anywhere. variety anywhere.
Hey check it out......San Francisco Mintmark Styles (varietyvista.com) This is what it should look like:
That's the closest match yet SensibleSal, thanks. Mine is still slightly different, even in areas without PMD. But that's closer than I was able to find.
Very interesting! It should be MMS-004 but it looks like MMS-008. http://lincolncentresource.com/San_Fransisco_Mintmark_Styles.html
Maybe definitive? MMS-004 all have the circled notch. Far right is another example from Heritage (there are many others).
I believe it is upright and the correct mm. but very worn/flattened. The upper loop is ovoid and the bottom is more rounded. Wexlers and Flynn "Authoritative Reference on Lincoln Cents" Shows no "S" MM variations for any 1948 Lincoln cent. Jim
