1839 $2.50 Quarter Eagle, guess the grade win a prize !

    Obverse has really nice color, and nice overall look. But the scratches are borderline graffiti to me, although they look natural enough. I would guess a details coin.

    The reverse also does not seem to "match" the obverse, and I know that would bother some people. Might just be the photos. TPG I am thinking would call the Obverse MS, the reverse AU, but overall details due to the scratches. Of course, these super sized images make that marks appear much larger than they really are...

    I think it's AU-58. I believe I see rub on both sides. Reverse die was heavily lapped (look at olive bud stems) but also some weak strike on the reverse as evidenced at the top left of the shield and into the wing root.

    The obverse scratches probably kept it from being a slider.

    MS-63 slab grade.

    This is a tough coin. It beats the devil out of mine which is graded AU-58.

    MS63 for me. Looks like it has booming luster. A little scratched up but probably a stunner in hand.
