I have 2 1944 wheat pennies from a recently found coin collection. I have since read online that they could be of value. Can anyone guide me on these please
Your 1944 Wheat Cents are normal.. Worth? 1 Cent each You probably read about 1944 Steel Wheat Cents.. It is called a transitional error. What that means is that in 1943 Wheat Cents were struck on some Steel Planchets. They resumed the minting of the Cents to Copper in 1944 but there were just a few Steel planchets left over from 1943. Those are very rare and almost impossible to find. Some information 1944 Steel Penny Facts | The U.S. Coins Guide (thefuntimesguide.com) and 1944 1C Steel (Regular Strike) Lincoln Cent (Wheat Reverse) - PCGS CoinFacts
This is the great thing about coin collecting. You can hold unimaginable history in your hands quite affordably….. No, there is little intrinsic value there, but volumes of historical importance….. The 1944 cents are often called shell casing cents because the US mint used recycled copper from spent shell casings. There was a world war going on and new copper was necessary for the war effort…. This is history you can touch!….. I would be a tad more optimistic about the value though. Maybe five to ten cents.
