Totally forgot about the 1975 Coins but then, while modern cains that they are, they have far better relief than what has been produced since the mid 90's.

As for the "Split Bands" on the recent 2016 offering?

I personally feel that the US Mint got caught with their pants down and then attempted to play upon the ignorance and gullibility of some folks by stating that the modern coining process could not produce the detail.

I think that whomever created the die was totally unaware that there were splits in the bands in the first place. A good sculptor does not necessarily make a good numismatist.

To clarify my prior statement ...

The [I[]original[/I] Winged Liberty Head Dime sculpts, hubs, and dies from the 1916-1945 period had full bands. Many of those coins do not have full bands due to planchet and striking parameters. But the dies themselves had full bands.

It is the modern 2016 gold dime that does not have full bands from that original sculpt on down the line.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Isn't it amazing how coin collecting has changed? When I was a kid, I had a paper route and used to check the money I collected once a week from my customers. I didn't know or really care about FB, FBL, & FS on coins. I just ws happy if I filled a hole in my Whitman's Folder (which has toned all the silver coins after all these years).

I can't really believe I wrote the quote listed above, that's not the fun of collecting, I hope I'm not losing that part of coin collecting that I had many years ago, the fun of finding coins that I enjoyed looking at and "filling those holes."

In all honesty - not "disagreeing," there's nothing to "disagree" about - that is the draw, the fun of collecting for me. All this illustrates is the enormous variety (heh) of ways in which we can derive satisfaction from a common hobby.

This is not a fantasy overstrike, but I had been so busy buying the "1916 series" fantasy coins that I almost forgot to get the latest Amero coin. I just ordered it--seller's picture, not mine. It is a beautiful, and very artistic design, as per Daniel Carr norm:

That is a good picture of one - better than my own picture.
But I have to admit that is one of my own least-favorite Liberty (Amero) designs.
There are some potential benefits to that - I tend to make less of something when I don't like it as much.

However, as with many of my designs, once I see it on a coin I start thinking of ways to improve it. Many of the Amero designs were greatly improved (in my opinion) by revising them in subsequent years. I expect to do the same with the 2016 "Spiked Liberty Head" design.

Here are some of the previous "before" and "after" designs:

I'll never be able to get a 1916 Liberty Standing Quarter (full Head), because of the cost, but I just ordered from Moonlight Mint (Daniel Carr) the 1915 Fantasy overstrke. From the picture on his website it will be the closest I'll get to the real thing. I post a picture when it comes in.

...and for sure, the Mint eliminated the center band design on purpose to make sure the weenies who didn't get one couldn't gripe! :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::p

Now that proves that sometimes the Mint gets it right. ;)

It would actually be more sad if that was the reason. No reason they all shouldn't have had them with that premium they sold them for
