I have gotten away from buying new offerings from the mint. I have stopped buying the new modern commemorative coins and have sold the pieces that no longer interest me. There are a few pieces that grab my attention now and then, and the 2023-S Proof Peace Dollar is one of them. I put together a display for the Summer FUN show on the 1936 Proof set. While doing my research in Roger Burdette's book on the 1936 - 42 Proof coins, he wrote that there would have been a 1936 Proof Peace Dollar if the mint had issued a 1936 business strike dollar. The mint ended the series in 1935 so there was no brilliant Proof Peace Dollar. There were Matte Proofs made in 1921 and '22 but they are so rare that most collectors have never seen one, let along had the funds to buy one. Therefore the 2023-S coin offered me a chance to fill that fantasy hole in my collection. It is quite attractive with its Ultra Cameo appearance. I have decided to order the Morgan Dollar although it will probably take forever to get to me. I have an "old" Proof Morgan, but a modern coin similar to this will be fun.
It is truly a beautiful coin. It appears to me many collectors that do npt support new offerings put out by the mint have made an exception to the Morgan and Peace Dollars, especially the Peace Dollar. The only Morgan Dollars I own are the 2021 and the 2023s that have been released up to this point. The 2021 6 coin set we own in MS70, and the 2023 coins we have that have been released, but I did not purchase them graded, just in OGP. Personally I hope if they do continue they just do the last 4 Morgan Dollars over 2 years in ms, pf, and reverse proof. At this time I just don"t think a continuation of the Peacce Dollar is necessary even though it is my favorite. I feel everything has been done for the Peace Dollar. If they continue as they did in 2023 it will be four more years until they complete the series
I am not fascinated with the frost. Dan Carr does a much better rendition. I have a thing for 23' Peace Dollars.
