LordM Giveaway #98 (Mystery Box Pick #4)

    Contest status: CLOSED
Winner: @potty dollar 1878 (first to guess the coin won it)
    Shipped: 14 August 2023
    Winner's notice of receipt

    ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The prize for this contest will be a mystery at first. I will pull one coin from one of my random boxes of unsorted World coins. So there's your first hint. It will be a non-US World coin. A pretty inexpensive coin, but it will be older, or interesting somehow, or silver (or maybe all three).

To enter: Be the first to guess the coin's identity (country, denomination, date), and it's yours- if you want it. I might drop some hints along the way if I feel they're necessary. We'll keep guessing until someone gets it right.

You may keep on guessing multiple times, but you must let at least two other people guess in between each of your guesses (in other words, you'll get a new guess every third post, if that makes sense).

Since this will require feedback from me as the guessing progresses, please be patient with me when I'm not online. I'll try to keep the guesses moving in the right direction. If this new contest format works, there will likely be more like this (I have a lot of World coins in those boxes).

Totally free: the contest is free of charge, open to everyone, with free worldwide shipping. The only thing I ask is that you do please post to this thread later, when you have received the prize, so that we'll know you got it (that helps me keep track).

    Good luck!

    Numismatic regards,

    ~Robertson ("Rob") Shinnick ("LordM")

Good work, expat- but no- we don't have any right answers yet.

You did get the correct continent. ;)

So now we know it's an inexpensive European coin from the 1700s which is not from England. It is also not from Denmark, not a skilling, and not dated 1735.

I think y'all get the idea.

No on all counts, but give it another go after two other people have guessed.

@SensibleSal66, you're up again if you want another guess.

It is European, from the 1700s.
It is not British, nor Danish.
Not a halfpenny nor a skilling.
    Not dated 1735 nor 1773.

    Next guesser, step right up...

    I will help it along.

Is it a Pfennig from one of the German states ?

    Yes, and no.

We have the first positive response. It could be called a pfennig.

    Good work.

Correction: it is cataloged under a different name for the denomination, but yeah, it's the equivalent of a pfennig.
