I would think it unlikely that a die gouge would be so perfectly straight. I'm thinking that it is more likely to be a strikethrough from some strip of metal. Chris
Don't think so, the devices are not effected. I say linear die dent because I've seen large ones like this that mike has called them as such. If this was in the fields instead of under a device I might think strikethrough as well.
Not really. Looks like it took a hit and pushed metal outwards that then folded in. The first coin in this thread is the unusual one
I have a penny with a similar error. i thought it was feeder finger marks but Mike Diamond said it is a linear die dent
Sent this one off to Wexler. His official opinion is 2016-P IL Shawnee 25¢ that has die deterioration doubling on the obverse. I'm not sure if I agree with this. I just want to show you this ORT cracks, notice the lettering is not disruptive in this crack but it is definitely a crack.
