Man, I love this place!!! So many good people spreading GOOD information. It's too bad most people can't get along like this...
Nice discovery I didn't really want to start a new thread... Was going through a roll of nickels today and got a 73-D. So I check my album and I notice my current 73-D looks pretty darned good. Actually has a sheen to it. Oh, these are coins that I started collecting in the late 60's and early 70's before putting them in a closet and only re-discovering them about 18 months ago. anyways, turns out that I must have pulled that 73-D from circulation probably in '73 or '74 and never noticed it these past few months. I took it out and it's got five full steps!!! Made my day.
I've bought several partialy completed nickel folders that had super coins in them. Many folks start a new hobby, then after a while change their minds. Sooner, or later, they wind up trying to sell the stuff they've lost interest in. A lot of that stuff winds up a flea markets. That's where I find a lot of my treasures. LOL
cool finds I have gotten some old whitman folders and books real cheap, now I will start getting a bunch of rolls on paydays and do the same, trying to fill the modern issues just from circulation. Great finds it looks like you had fun !!
There is a similar error in the kennedy half series. 1982, 1983, and 1990's have been found missing the "FG" initials on the rev.
Can't believe I missed this thread - expecially with all the shield nickels. Actually all of my shield nickels are my favorite, but I will post this one. I added this 1868 to my collection about 2 months ago. I just love the repunched date and all the die cracks. I added two 1882's today - one a filled 2 and 1 with lots of die cracks. I think every time I go to the local coin shop I think I find a couple of shield nickels to buy.
