I agree, I need to grow up. Insider, I'm buying the drinks if you make it to Fun in January. Sorry for any drama I created. Doug, thank you for the kind words.
And me? I ignore the pretty pictures, and pretty much come here for the flame wars. [KIDDING!] [But neither do they much bother me.] Every post here has me imagining the poster behind it - age, gender, degree of hair loss. (Mostly high, Male, again high - collector demographics.) When I see posters who easily take offense, aka thin-skinned, I immediately imagine a younger poster. Is that wrong of me? It's a reaction to what I see in "meat space". I think our schools have created a generation with no backbone. Sorry, it's what I believe. I call it "invertebrate transformation education".
I just ignore the flaming. Being a moderator on another forum and in the past on various sites you either have to moderate it, or ignore it. I'm just here for the coin chat and coin information, which is what this forum is intended for.
It seems to me discussions regarding Daniel Carr's work bring out the most passion, and the least congeniality of anything else here, with the possible exception of when I like to tweak the noses of the "bullionista" culture. Did you ever stop to think I do it because they get so upset and start trembling with anger so much it impedes their ability to spell or type? I kid because I care.
It's complicated Seriously, it really is. In simplest terms, it's when one person goes at another. In the beginning, when forums first started, it came to be called flame wars. It was quickly shortened to just flaming. The complicated part begins on what one (as a moderator) will allow, and what one won't allow. For just like with most everything else, a whole lot of people have a whole lot of different definitions as to what exactly is flaming, and what isn't. Around here, I decide that. And I provide guidance to the other mods so they can decide when necessary. What anybody else thinks - doesn't matter.
WikiPedia actually has an entire page to Internet Flaming https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming_(Internet)
Thanks @Clawcoins, From what I read on Wikipedia, I flame people all the time using faces in place of profane language!
It's not complicated for me. We already know each other. You just don't remember. Hope you can join some of us at Fun. We have a great time having a few and talking coins. Let us know if you change your mind. You are always welcome.
