    Reference.
    Strack *27 var. (COS II)

    Obv. HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS P P
    Laureate head right.

    Rev. COS II (sic)
Aequitas standing l. holding scales and cornucopiae.

    3.2 gr
    19 mm

I was thinking an engravers error, because there is no light trace to see.
    what do you think|?
    probably a clogged die.

I think it is probably clogged. Looking at the spacing for the Is it would seem odd to see the spacing for a deliberate COS II to be placed as they are. I suspect the missing I would have been where the black mark is located at around 2 o'clock. A reverse die match would provide a definitive answer.

Not a Hadrian, and probably not the same scenario as yours, but I wonder what happened to this Marcus Aurelius sestertius. Clogged die? Letters ground off in modern times for inexplicable reasons? Tooling gone awry??
