Just sharing some pics of my finds at the Fun Show. Man, I had fun for two days. My neck and back were sore from slobbering over coins. Got to see CoinGuy also.
What an eclectic collection, @BALD SPARTAN! Please educate me on the three other coins: ET, Trump and Poseidon. Since they are not legal tender "currency", I would imagine that they have no 'real' monetary value, correct? Aren't they what some would call "token" coins?
The Poseiden and Trump are just private mint 1 oz silver. The ET coin is actually a 40th anniversary commemorative 2-dollar silver coin from the Niue Mint in Polynesian
The ET reverse is cool. I will get a pic up later. The movie released in 1982 and was the first show I was allowed to attend at the local cinema.
It was my first major coin show and my Lord I was overwhelmed. I at least took some advice and prepared my want list and price range to have with me. Met some cool people. Not many Coin guys in my area.
I’d have saved the money for the bullion, Morgans and low grade/problem coins. Instead I would habe bought higher grade Seated and Bust half dollars. I like the Peace Dollar though, it appears to have original surfaces.
To each his own micbraun, that's what makes the hobby great. I agree though the pursuit to get the best coins within your budget range is the goal.
I've always wondered with the just over a million 21 peace dollars minted, how is it that most collectors have at least one? I think I have 3 and I'm not a numismatic collector per se.
Sorry if my post came across rude. I have a min grade of VF30 and make no exceptions. If you look at Bust/Seated coinage, VF30/35 bring the most “bang for the buck”. If you can find a CAC’ed coin, even better. So far, I am happy with my approach.
No its all good. I got the point you were making and agree on your approach. I dont mind some lower grades in my collection if the price is favorable and I like the coin.
