That's a good step in the right direction for providing easy access to the website photos for comparison. I just hope people do not assume that the functionality of the QR code is, in-and-of-itself, a security feature (scanning the QR code and landing on the website doesn't mean anything with respect to authenticity).

It would be great if a cell phone app could be produced that would determine the authenticity of the hologram via cell phone scan.... especially if it could somehow work while scanning pictures of the hologram. Probably a pipe dream :(.

Yes, it is a step in the right direction - but PCGS has been doing this (better) for years. I really like that you just tap the PCGS holder with your phone and it sends you to the cert page. So easy!

More technology.... Anyway, thanks to technology, I've been able to look at coins to determine if a coin is worth my time.

Sure have come a long way since the initial plain white slabs. It will surely drum up business. Older slabs will disappear more and more.

Anything visual can be copied fairly easily by pros. For real security, a chip is needed. If done right, it provides security that only a very few labs in the world can copy.

Yep. It would be nice if all TPGs would adopt this, but I'm sure PCGS has it buried in IP barriers that would force their competitors to pay them royalties to use the technology. The alternative is for them to develop IP that PCGS wants and cross-license.
