I'm interested in Byzantine at the moment, but Roman and Greek are of interest as well. I'd like to know which eBay sellers are trustworthy and which should be avoided. I want to avoid fakes at all costs. Also, any tips for one starting their collection are greatly appreciated. -Joe
Hello @Carterofmars. Welcome to the world of Byzantine coins. I recommend Vcoins.com for new Byzantine collectors, rather than Ebay. There are some good dealers on Ebay, but there are also many fake coins sold on Ebay. The Dumbarton Oaks books on Byzantine coins are available as free PDF files on the internet, and they have a lot of interesting information, and are also an excellent reference, with many photos of coins. The Sear book "Byzantine Coins And Their Values" is a good book. The book "ERIC II" is a good book, for both Roman coins and Byzantine coins. The Sayles book "Ancient Coin Collecting V" is a fun book to read.
I may or may not have posted in in the Auction Listings part of Cointalk authentic ancient coins I currently have on eBay right now
Anyone have recommendations for good eBay sellers? Like the five good emperors, one can hope, no? Maybe let's have the three most reputable. Maybe some are afraid to call out bad ones?
This has been discussed on numerous occasions. Take a look at this thread: Anyone willing to share good eBay sellers? | Coin Talk
