In this Type 1 listing, the selller states it is the same reverse as the Accent Hair (1964 Kennedy Half). Is type 1 the same thing as Accent Hair or just same reverse?
Check out the truncation at the bottom of the 'I' in Liberty. If there's no break in that truncation then it's not an accented hair variety.
Excellent point. To confirm accent hair all diagnostics should be verified. I was just wondering if type 1 is accent hair or reverse only.
Got this off of Ebay - don't know if it is what you are looking for: “When the mint changed the dies from the "Accented Hair" variety that many people know about, they did not change the reverse dies right away. 1964 proofs with a type 1 reverse have the "regular" hair, but they also have the broken rays of the Accented Hair reverse as well as the no serif or "straight" G in Frank Gasparro's initials."
@Insider is at the FUN show - due back this evening. He was telling me about the different 1964 Proofs (we have several AH's) when he read something on one of the forms about the old reverse die that he never heard of before (he's looking for one for his collection this weekend). He may have something to add. I've had the computer all weekend!
When @Insider gets around to replying, he'll give u an answer, tell you when icg started slabbing the reverse variety as such and give his opinion on the upside of owning said coin. With colored text and emoticons I'm a huge fan of his
Ya know? You just might be 'insder' tryin' to get in touch with his feminine side........just a thought.
Accented Hair Reverse with Normal Obverse - listed as Variety by ANACS... This might be the CT thread. I found it with the search engine. He does not know it yet but he is taking me to dinner before he gets near the computer tonight...LOL. The last three days he has been calling when he gets back to his room to tell me about the great buffets each night at the Rosen hotels next to the convention.
He has one...LOL. I told him from the beginning he better watch himself or he would get banned but he didn't listen. Then one night he was watching more TV than usual with me and I got him to fess up...LOL. Momma was right. He may have been banned from coin community also for getting someone to prove the truth of an opinion they posted with facts.
Yes that is my thread and they are out there......not as rare as I would like but not common either...
Thanks, I think that's were I first heard about these. I tried to cherry one at the FUN Show with no luck - I'm too cheap to buy a graded slab . I've seen them in ANACS & ICG slabs.
