Since this is the place for coins made prior to 1600, this piece just slips under the wire. Here is a recent purchase, an Elizabeth I shilling. This piece was issued in the mid 1590s, and is from the 6th issue of Elizabeth coins.

I think that the most popular categorical date cut-off for ancients would be around the fall of the Western Roman Empire (476 AD), commonly rounded off to 500 AD. It would be nice if "Medieval" or whatever appropriate category was utilized more often. It seems as though these in between categories tend to get skipped over in forums, auctions, and the like....... as things tend to be either "Ancient" or "Modern". I suppose "Milled" coinage might be a good technical cutoff for modern, but that even seems problematic because a coin minted during the reign of Elizabeth I seems like it should be categorized apart from a coin made yesterday. In any case, here's my Elizabeth I. It's a little sister to you guy's coins (1/2 Groat).
