Thanks Mat, Vespasian is becoming a favourite. I only have a couple of fairly poor denari of his and this coin.
that's a nice lookin' as...the colors are great pish. here's my same ol' rough lookin' vespassian as...
I parted with my decent denarius earlier this year since I had gotten those two Tets., which I prefer.
Doesn't bother me too much. I usually do "one comes in, one goes out" system unless it's special via the reverse or random like a provincial. These tets are different since one is Alexandria and other is Antioch and I didn't feel the need to keep the denarius since it was rome. For me the system helps me get other coins I would like to have or to put towards higher $ ones.
We have seen several Vespasian tetradrachms of Alexandria. I have none. This is from Antioch with gamma where Mat's has delta.
I thought the same. Had I the money to spend I would've given you a run for it Pish. Very nice pick there.
Very nice obverse portrait, especially the large bust. Not overly smoothed, and full legends too! A lot of Vespasian's portraits can be quirky and not all that artistic, but this one's a keeper. Good acquisition!
Lovely example Pish! If I collected bronze, that would be the type of coin I would go after. Here my denarius with Aequitas. Struck around the same time as your As. Vespasian AR Denarius Rome Mint, 69-70 AD RIC 21 (C), BMC 17, RSC 94a Obv: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG; Head of Vespasian, laureate, r. Wow, that portrait is almost photographic. Did he really say "Oh, I think I am becoming a god" or did it come from a play?
Nice @Pishpash ! You had an EXCELLENT day today! Well done. My Vespasians... Roman Imperial Vespasian 69-79 CE AR Denarius Jupiter Sacrificing Roman Imperial Vespasian 69-79 CE AE Dupondius Felicitas stdg caudices cornucopia
