Here are the locations of the three Korean mints that stood in the late 19th century in Korea. These mints produced Korea's first struck coins. Each mint only lasted for a short time. I'm writing up a short history on the coins of this era for a price guide I am trying to publish. Gyeongseong Mint (1883~1892) Incheon Mint (1892~1900) Yongsan Mint (1900~1904)
That's pretty cool! I thought they struck coins at slightly different years. This is a type set album that I made a while back. I have issues uploading images here... https://issuu.com/gxseries/docs/korea_dynasty_type_set_1888_1910
Cool. I always enjoy learning about mints and such. Are the photos you provided just locations? Are any of those original mint facilities still standing?
Just locations. The old facilities were torn down on the "end dates" of each one. After November 1904, all Korean coins were minted in Japan until 1910.
The coins are marked with dates that sometimes don't reflect the actual years they were struck, but they did most of the time. I got the dates of the opening and closing of the mints from that book you recommended to me: The History of Korean Money [증보 한국화폐사] (1969)
