For my money, this coin has an absolutely fascinating reverse. My wife, a non-Texan, went to the internet to see who the two portraits were (Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin)
This is a great commemorative. Low mintage, amazing design, and you can get one in MS-64 for under $200.
My last acquisition was a 1829 Bust Half with large lettering. That was last year. No pictures though. It had a ding, but it was an awkward ding, but yet still unique.
I got some other coins but they were dark so I couldn't get good pics. Again, coin collecting doesn't have to be expensive. This coin cost $12.75. Here is a nickel I got for $.50:
Dimes are so underappreciated, in my opinion. I guess that's better for us that collect them too when it comes to buying.
I agree! But MS66+FB not dimes they can cost... 1946-1958 PDS is a hard one to find or someone to sell
One of the best looking commems I think. Far better than the York county Maine which is where I live. That one plain sucks. But if I get a Texas commem I need 2. My girlfriend is from Texas and she likes coins
I love the Texas commem too, but I wish it didn't have the 2 portraits on the back. To me, it would be perfect without.
I wonder how the 1/20th OZ half dime will strike up on gold They could get full strikes 150 years ago on half dimes in silver, a much harder metal, not to mention very thin. As evidenced by the Mercury Dime, they probably can't get it today... (Weren't the type 2 gold dollars a huge problem with striking though?)
Picked this up Sunday from my favorite local dealer at a local show. He never fails to have a nice coin that I hadn't thought of that fits right into my collection.
