They aren't generally available in quantities and when the banks order dollar coins they will invariably get the small dollars. Large dollar coins do trickle back from the banks and if the right person is asked at the right time they can be obtained but the opportunities are not frequent, at least where my vault manager is getting them. But... Bless her!... she keeps on trying and does score for me about once every month or two!

That relationship is worth keeping my friend. I'm just sitting here thinking what type of gratitude (gift?) you could show a female vault manager without stepping over the line but something that will strengthen the relationship, letting her know just how much you appreciate her efforts and time.

So true, last time I stopped at an upscale bakery and bought treats for all the staff. Maybe a modest gift card for Starbucks or the like?

 

I've never been able to get bags of Ike's but have seen pictures of the finds some have made. Peace and Morgan dollars seem to turn up quite often. And sometimes in quantity. Good hunting keep us updated.

I got a big loose pile of "weird coins" that the teller had held onto for months once... it was wonderful. She threw them in a bag for me.
