Little Orme's Head Roman Coin Hoard 1873.

Living close to Llandudno and most often driving about I often see/pass the site of the 1873 Penrhyn Bay coin hoard and have been aware of it since childhood as it was mentioned in 'Norman Tucker Colwyn Bay It's Origin & Growth' possibly my first intelligent book as a child.
Over 5000 late 3rd early 4th C.E bronze coins found in a redware flagon 13" in height by a farmer's son digging close to his farmhouse.
The coins left untouched until his death in 1901 are inherited by his nephew minus the flagon, the coins are taken to Manchester and sold to a dealer. The dealer allows a numismatist (see pdf below) to clean and examine the coins. Most are minted in London MLN, PLN, the remainder Trier, Arles, Lyon etc and are found to be in mint condition.
It was with some delight I managed to buy one last weekend.
