Hey guys, lately I've been buying one American Eagle 1/10th oz with each 1 oz coin purchase. My local coin store has them at the moment for $220 and I can't find them cheaper anywhere online. (He also has Canadian maple leafs 1/10th for $205) Do you guys think its a good move to stack these 1/10th oz even tho they are higher at the end of the day? I know it's a frequently asked question but I feel the market is in a weird spot at the moment and I wanted to see if peoples perception has changed on these recently. -Zack
APMEX selling 1/10 oz. @ $289.29 at this time! Less than 50 @ $295.08 ea. I thought that $220 per oz. was too high a premium, but... Strangely, the random year proofs are $292.85 any quantity!
Yes, I'd buy at that price as it's very fair in today's market! That said, I wouldn't buy more than one as I'd try for a bigger and better deal like a Saint Gaudens or an ounce!
Thanks guys I agree I think the price is pretty good on these fractional eagles. He also has gold buffalos which is my favorite 1 oz to stack for $2040. I plan on buying at least 2 1/10th oz tommorow and mostly like a buffalo as well!
I was able to buy nine American eagle 1/10th oz for $215 each. Unfortunately this was my first time here and the coin dealer was a complete jerk. He said that cash is dirty and he wanted a cashiers check. He almost refused me service because I had cash and I didnt want to go out and get him a cashiers check what a weird experience. He also refused to give me a receipt...? He kind of berated me for no reason so I probably wont be back but at least I got a relatively good deal out of the situation.
The sounds like a weirdo. Cash is dirty? Coins aren't I suppose. And no receipt? That sounds like a sketchy move as well. I'm actually surprised he didn't want the cash seeing as it seems like he is trying to move unaccounted for 1/10 ouncers at a 'too good to be true' price. Honestly I'd be breaking out my scale and calipers to double check them.
I agree I should not have spent a penny at his business and I was honestly in a bit of shock at the time. I did test all 9 of the coins on a sigma verifier and they are legitimate. I agree I think he was just trying to sell them off record for tax reasons perhaps... I am looking for a good reputable Local coin store, hopefully I will have better luck this weekend.
Best wishes and I hope you find one. There are a number of online dealers that are very good and easy to deal with.
The Interesting interaction was the premium If the deal is good sometimes you need to put in more effort. There should be no tax on PM's anyway, more states are coming around to the idea. I was in a little shop passing through California and looked at a 1/4 ounce silver bar. It looked older and I hadn't seen one before so I asked How Much? The clerk said $28 (spot is like $24 an ounce) I did a quick double take and asked HOW MUCH? Why so much for a Quarter ounce of silver? Clerk said it just came in and they haven't really had time to price it... I liked it but no way on the price. Next time through town I stopped in and it was still there (no price) so I asked the price again. Clerk said $24. I said it's only a Quarter ounce and it's priced at a full ounce price??? He pulled the bar out, looked it over and said Hmmm how about $10? That was still 2x spot or better but I bought it anyway because it was vintage and something I hadn't seen before. Turns out it's somewhat rare and well worth the price and I Still had to pay Tax.
