Counterfeit classics

    A friend of mine found these in a bag in a parking lot. I thought they were cool and gave him $10. I have a small collection of counterfeits I occasionally add to.

    Look for the P mintmark

    P for Peking.

    As far as I know, I only own 1 counterfeit coin... it's hiding out in one of my Dansco albums in my safe. :)

    Although they blare out counterfeits...it's a great educational tool to help people new to numismatics differentiate between real and fake. Good job!!!

    I always feel people get really angry when a collector owns a few fakes. But like jason was saying, they're a great education tool for new and none collectors. I have a handful I use.

    They're more effective educational tools when used alongside genuine coins. These don't scream "counterfeit" to someone who has never seen the real thing.

    With my counterfeit, there is no real coin to compare it to as the mint didn't make the particular date and MM (or lack thereof) combination...
