It looks like pretty harsh die polishing to me. I don't see any marks across the devices and the marks stop abruptly at the edges of the devices. They also appear to be raised above the surface of the fields, meaning they would be incuse on the die.

 

Someone took sandpaper after it.

I find Mr. Insider very knowledgeable and I think he’s a good guy to have on CT. Always testing our knowledge as well.

 

I guess no one fell for my suggestion that the coin was a counterfeit.

 

On the contrary, there have been six votes for "counterfeit tool marks".
