Not my coins, but I said I would try to ID them.

First coin - could this be Nero?

In hand you can see Victory and shield on the reverse.

Second coin. Claudius? Tiberius? Not sure. Can't find a match on Wildwinds.

First one Nero second one Tiberius or Claudius, others could probably do better.

Second looks to be Claudius. No idea on the first.

Ken Dorney Yea, I'm Cool That Way...

Second is Claudius for sure. As for the first, it just doesnt look like Nero at all, but maybe its the photo. Looks like Claudius to me.

Agree that second coin is Claudius.

First coin is difficult. I tried to bring out the details a bit:

I don't know if this helps. It COULD be the obverse of this Nero:

From the enhanced image of IoM, I think both are Claudius.

I believe the first is Nero with the Victory and shield reverse. The second is Claudius with Libertas.

Doug is correct about the Nero. You can see the shield, wings, and S C on the reverse of the first coin. Like this one:

    Well done!

So Nero and Claudius/Libertas then. Thanks guys, I didn't think we would get them both.

I was able to get the Claudius because I have a worse one. I never assigned this a number in my collection but it gas such a nice patina that I could never let it go either. I'm old and worn out, too.

This is why I do not recommend new collectors buy hard to identify coins. Things like these are easier if you have seen a few hundred before. Specialists better than I am can often name the reverse on a coin seeing only the obverse because they recognize the style that was in use for a particular type. Big dealers who have handled a million coins have such an advantage over those of us who have seen a few thousand.

Truly, I think IoM and Doug are correct, but I still think both look like Claudius. But don't listen to me, cause I am easily fooled. Like I said in another thread, just pat me on the head and move on to another topic.

I'm really surprised at how quickly these were identified.

    Me too!

I thought the first coin was Nero, but when I looked at it again, I thought it was wrong. The flying Victory with the shield did not come out in the photo at all well. The second coin could have been one of a few, I really was not sure.
