Mailman dropped this off (while I was at work) EL Stater 7.69g. 23mm. dated year 512 obv. Draped bust of King Rheskuphoris III of Bosphorus (ally of Rome) rev. Bust of Emperor Caracalla Mint? (my third Bosphorus EL coin) John
Nice one John but @TIF already knocked my socks off with her Hillbilly electrum stater. I congratulate you and off come the flip-flops.
Thanks everyone! These guys (Kings) really ran their state into the poorhouse. This is reflected in their Staters, at first AV content was over 95%....then with my example 50% later as low as 5 percent gold.
Wow, that's an awesome golden Bosphorus addition!! (congrats panzerdawg) here are a couple of pretty cool counter-stamped examples from my humble hoard ... both have Sep-Sev punched on 'em (pretty cool, eh?) => 2 x Kings of Bosporos Sauromates II - c-punch 174-210 AD AE26 AE 144 Units
Nice details, looks fresh as the day it was made. Question, what is that on the obverse, a drumstick or beer?
