Been finding a lot of this fresh out of the mint rolls, mostly P. The I and T especially. It can also be noticed in the Liberty. Like the rim isn’t correct. I’m not really sure but it’s a Stark contrast to the roll of S, which are perfect.
S mint coins, or proofs, are meant to be perfect. They are for collectors. But standard ones like the one you posted are not usually perfect. In fact, a 'perfect' MS70 business strike coin is very hard to find.
Something like this worth saving? The fun for me is the search but I don’t want to toss something back that’s considered an error. I tried starting this hobby years ago and am just now coming back to it. Trying to learn. Ty.
It was minted by a worn die and that’s very common. It’s your coin do you have to decide but it may be worth putting it into a flip and labeling it for future reference and educational purposes.
I keep a jar of error/funny looking coins that I come across. That is just a way to feel better about keeping some of them, rather than sending them into oblivion. Just a suggestion.
To be clear, proof is a method of manufacture, not a condition. They do come close to perfection, though....
