I recently was given this token by my grandmother, who found it with her sister at an antique mall in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. I have found very little information about this token beyond an eBay listing and a TokenCatalog listing. The limited examples I have been able to come across makes me think it is relatively scarce. Does anyone know anything about this token? Perhaps what its purpose was? Is it as scarce as it seems?

There was no listing of this token on Numista so I added it: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/exonumia368379.html

It would be interesting to know the reason for issuing this piece. The serial number "4046" was entered when the piece was struck on when it was laying on top of the the obverse die. Otherwise that would be a flat spot opposite it.

I wonder if this was issued sometime during the Great Depression when many banks were in trouble? It would be great to know what "the profit coin" was.

Sorry, I am unable to provide any info for this one. I have two refs for Wisconsin tokens, but neither listed it. While it possibly may be scarce, not being able to find info on it may not be an accurate indicator. For example, in my state, Ohio, Lipscomb's 2nd edition of Ohio Merchant Tokens (1994) lists approx. 12,000 tokens (excluding certain types), and he estimated that only 40% of eligible tokens are listed in his book, and that an unlisted token is not necessarily worth any more, nor scarcer, than a listed token.

The Merchants and Manufacturers Bank is still in operation, now going by M & M Bank. They do have an on line presence with contact information, so if you reach out to them, they may be able to answer some of your questions.
