Just acquired this flying eagle cent and noticed some serious doubling on the date. Any idea which snow variety this is and if it carries a premium? Thanks!

It’s also missing part of the S in “States”

I'm not seeing it listed but my Snow books are a bit old.

I don't find it in my Snow either. It's the Large Letter, Low Leaf Obverse. But I don't see a doubled or dramatically repunched date listed.

1858 Small letters, I looked online and did not see another like yours.

    It could be Longacre's doubling.

I have never seen Longacre doubling with that look.

Any thoughts on the broken S?

My best guess is a filled die. Grease and junk stuck in the die.

I'm thinking the doubling on the date is machine doubling. I wanted to call it a repunched date. If that were true there would have been many struck and Rick Snow would have seen one and listed it. Interesting coin.

The last "8" on the side of the doubling appears to be thinner like maybe sheared - which is an indication of machine doubling. Not going to commit to that though.
