No, not the planchet, but the reverse Lincoln on this 1971 proof. Also, the pillars and initials are extra thick. No known verities that I can find. IMG_0001-137.jpg IMG_0002-100.jpg Snap_170.jpg Snap_171.jpg Snap_172.jpg Snap_173.jpg Snap_174.jpg

If it’s thick it’s from a worn die.

Or it's because proofs are especially struck twice.

Once again, the mint trying to get as much use out of dies as they can. That one should have been retired earlier.

Since the feature of this coin appear to be elongated, do you think there is a possibility it is a LDS Class IX Doubled die?

Elongated? No. Doesn't happen during the minting process that I'm aware of. Also, not seeing a difference on your comparison. Sorry. hammer.gif

The minting process makes it impossible for this coin to be elongated, unless it was double struck but that’s another huge difference.

It is called Shifted Hub Doubling. “It is most often characterized by a slippage of the design, in a cardinal direction – much like the Class IV offset hub doubling."

When Wexler and Flynn included class IX as "Only God knows" in their book, I personally do not think that they thought they were "Real" discoveries of value, but instead some one messed with them in the mint, but of course only them and God knows. To me they would be face value, I would spend the time on types 1-8, Jim
