Hello, an elderly family member found this digging in his yard years ago and asked if I could help him find out what it is. Thanks for any help.
hard to tell from the image, but my first thought was Chinese cash coin. Where did this family member dig it up? BTW, welcome @Julssus
It does look like Chinese characters, but looks like clay to me, and not metal, and it's really thick. And no hole in the middle either. Definitely not what I would think of when thinking about cash coins. Could it be some old Chinese game piece, ticket, or something along that line that was brought from China by some Victorian world traveler?
What do I know? I do not collect Chinese coins new or ancient, but that is the closest I could come up with. BTW @Sallent did you blow up the neighborhood? Hope you had a good holiday.
Thanks Bing. I had a great time with the family. The fireworks were a lot of fun. I hope you too had an awesome 4rth of July.
Looks like Chinese cash with a square hole in the centre, and four Chinese characters spaced around it. But it's like looking for shapes in clouds. i could be completely wrong, and it really needs to be cleaned up for a definite diagnosis.
I'm quite proficient with Chinese coins. First, this is not a coin. Its ceramic, and is indeed made to resemble a coin. The only character I can really read is the left, "Bao". Cant make out the others. I have no idea what it is or how old it may be, but likely its just some oddity, maybe something someone made when they were bored. No way to tell how old it is.
