Bought another eBay lottery ticket today. It will be interesting to see the actual condition of the coin. You will love this - here is the description: You are bidding on a silver half dollar dated1858 (very clear). Coin has obviously been circulated at some point. It was a part of my mother's collection and has been kept in a box for at least 30 years. I would like to see it in the hands of someone who can enjoy it. Sorry about the picture. My camera isnt very updated. Coin appears in good condition with some minor cleanup necessary. Hopefully I have saved this coin from some minor clean-up that really isn't necessary. I will post actual photo's when the coin arrives. Till then I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for that little S on the reverse. At risk - $16.50. Regards, Darryl
Ya, I loved the "1858 (very clear)" part too. Not so clear to me yet, but lets hope . And Yes, it's round - hopefully a coin - hopefully made by the US mint not the China mint and hopefully Good Condition means something better than a good grade... Thanks, I'll keep you posted.
Just for reference sake (no Red Book at work), what's the price of an 1858 P Seated Lib. half-dollar in G-4 versus an S mint in G-4? Must be enough to take a small risk on! Hopefully you luck-out, if that's the case!
1858 P = $25 In good 1858 -O = $25 In good 1858 S = $25 In good So, perhaps he needs the date/mintmark?
Same problem here - I'm at work - Book is at home. Mintage numbers are significantly different so there should be a bit of a difference. At work all I have to go on is the PCGS web site prices which I know are elevated and they are at $30 and $40. There are less than 500K made of the S and over 10M of the O and P combined. From the photo and description I can at least prey :eat: for a G4 grade or better. As long as it's legit, the risk is small. Even if it's not - the loss is three cocktails next week .
That surprises me - and I guess I need all the mint marks in all the years as this will be my first seated half. Thanks for the numbers Frank - are those red book or grey sheet?
Thanks - the only other 1800's half I have has been altered so it will be nice to have another type coin to add to the collection.
