Yes, it was from Doug. And thank you. And I have not seen many AE's of her... I like the As version that I have.

Now I know where my coins ended up. Those (minus one) were sold early on in the group JA sold for me. I hope they have a happy home.

Very happy home. I may have a TENTH the size of your collection, but it is steadily growing. The Julia Domnae are the core of my future acquisitions of portrait Empresses. But, that will be a later time. Presently, I am pursuing some cool historical subsets that I want to capture... Mainly in the BCE timespans...

Beautifull Julia Domna coins! I kinda feel left out....I do not even have one! My wife not wanting me to feel depressed, gave me the OK to bid on some in upcoming auctions! 26ff94177a15d48d7685e3c720cc5a54.jpg

That's a really nice Lucifera, and just an exemplary Gallienus coin.

@zumbly that is a gorgeous Plautilla. From the coin portraits I've seen, I think she was a beautiful woman.

I think you may be right. Unfortunately, that didn't help her win the affection of her husband. I remember reading before that she had a weakness for shopping and spending money... perhaps that was the problem. On second thoughts, nah, the problem was just Caracalla.

I've read differing accounts of her death, none of them pleasant. What a shame.

I do not appreciate the lies being told of our beloved Emperor Caracalla, the coolest most handsome Emperor of the Roman Empire.

    Baths of Caracalla.jpg

Plautilla, well...she strangled herself. Yeah, that's exactly what happened. Thinking otherwise can be dangerous to one's health. Thankfully Caracalla is one cool dude and is willing to overlook it this time, but next time it's crucifixion time.

Before this gets blown out of proportions, let me just apologize and say that I did not mean to cause any offense. In all seriousness, I too am a fan of emperor Caracalla...

    Nice coins everyone.
I like very much the Diana Lucifera reverse, and currently started a series of them. I have four so far : Domna, of course, but Faustina Sr, Plautilla and Gordian III too. Still quite a way to go....

There is a very common aureus of Julia Domna with the Venus from the rear reverse. The gold ones tend to be very well done. All I have are the silvers.
