Having found an ideal 1892 Columbian, I continued searching for a 1992 that would make a nice pair. This modern silver Commemorative has a design that I like but finding one with color was a challenge. Finally an example showed up and I bid strong-I'm sure a record price for a PR 68! I'm happy to have both in my collection now.

They go well together. Is the 1992 in ngc plastic too?

    Thank you!
    The 1992 is PCGS graded.

That toning does a great job of pairing them together, they look great.

That’s a really attractive coin and I’m sure you had to look hard to find it as I’ve never seen one quite like it. Congrats on the fine and in building a fine pair.

    Here's my 1892 toned Columbian MS65:

    Thanks!
I did look for several years. I saw one other at a show that I recall being nicer. The only issue was that the dealer wasn't too friendly and didn't even want to give a price. I think he finally said something around $10,000, which was obviously way outside of my range (and well beyond moon money).

Very nice! I enjoy seeing all the different toned Columbians (as well as blast white ones).

This 1892 Columbian Half Dollar is only graded MS-63. The dealer who had it tried a couple of times to get a higher grade. This was about 30 years ago. I paid MS-64 money for it back then.

I have always thought that this is one of the better designs for the $5 gold commemorative coins.

@johnmilton those are nice! I like the gold as well!
I have the two coin (silver plus clad) set in the original package but not the gold; I will look into adding one at some point (less motivated now with the higher spot price).

Yes, I agree. The price gold is a detriment.
