A really beautiful holy roman empire fractional taler... http://www.vcoins.com/world/cng/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=157&large=0
I'd either get a proof morgan, a 1895-S morgan in XF, a 1932-D washington, 1909-S VDB in VF-XF, or a Buffalo 3 legged. It'd be a hard choice but I probably go with the 1895-S .
With $1,000 I'd probably be more likely to buy 10 $100 coins than 1 $1,000 coin, but if I had to spend $1,000 on just one coin it'd probably be an Owl... http://www.freemanandsear.com/displayproduct.pl?prodid=3522 ...or a nice big bronze of an early Roman emperor.
Okay, would you be willing to pay $1,000 for a coin with a mintage of 450 pieces? Suppose that it was just MS-63? Still interested? Well, you can do that if you are willing to think outside the box. There are a number of very scarce special editions of the Red Book that are available for under $1,000: 1) the 1992 ANA edition, est printing #500 for $255 2) the 50th Anniversary #500 $125 3) 2002 ANA Special edition $130+ 4) 2002 FUN SHOW EDITION #1100, $110 5)2007 ANA SPECIAL EDITION #500: $100+ 6) 2007 MICHIGAN SHOW #450 $100-$125 All of them are very scarce. The scarcest is the 1987 ANA, total estimated at #450, for $1,000+
That's what I had in mind. Those Reverse Proofs will be worth their weght in GOLD. But I'd sure like to compleat my merc dime collection with a 1916-D.
http://www.stacks.com/shop_coindetail.aspx?esid=8001 Because of the unique strike and the great tone. The coin is unique, IMO. Ruben
If you're like me, and buy stuff cuz it's pretty, not cuz it'll double in a week: 06 W Gold eagle $50 graded PR 70 Ucam. You may be able to use the rest of the money to get an 06 W unc PR-70 ASE. I'm biased.. I just ordered one and I can't stop posting about it The 06 ASE reverse proofs are great too. I have 1 in a set. the ungraded sets seem to be more reasonable (IMO) to me, because the ungraded reverses alone seem to be 70% of the cost of a full set and you get the key ms/pr-ASE's to boot when you buy a set... but it is unlikely that you'll get any 70's from any set that anyone is reselling.. they've all been picked through. I've seen PR69 reverse proofs selling for more than a ungraded 3 coin set. The Martha washington gold may have some value left in them but there seems to be a frenzy. I like NICK66's post.
$1000 High grade Lincoln 1914-d, strong AU, just like the one in my avatar, I just did that. Lincolns are gonna go nuts real soon. I am building roll quantitys of all the semi k Lincolns in fine or better, no problem original coins. Don't buy junk or any problem coins, just the best you can afford, and you will do well.
Hey Magman, We have it made in the spring, huh? ANA show is comin to town, yee haaaa, start savin now !!
