I learn something new here every day. I always thought the 1955 doubled die, or poor mans DD, were minted in Philly. I was unaware there was a variety out of Denver too.

no the big boy is from Philly a major variety with the massive seperation/doubleing the d ddo is a lesser doubling and considered a minor variety or at least that is the info I get from pcgs lol

If you like them that's all that matters. $5 doesn't buy much these days.

Wasted $5 on eBay? I guess that would depend on why you bid on them. Simply the feeling of "winning" something can get the juices flowing and be worth it. I hope the seller paid for postage though.

I learned about the "poor man's DD" when I was an impressionable kid (circa 1970), because there was at least one big-name dealer that pushed it very heavily.

As I understand it today, it's simply die trails from a heavily-worn die, and happens on many dates and mints. It's just that everyone was staring extra-hard at their 1955-P cents, and it was easy to wish/hope that a little "doubling" was still worth attention. I didn't learn about "strike doubling" until I came here. As we see most every day on the Errors forum, I'm not the only one who was late learning about it.

Great deal. Especially if it was "free shipping".
