Ok so I got this coin from my coinstar today from Walmart. It’s a 1982 D Washington Quarter and it weighs between 4.8-4.9 grams. I put it on my scale three times first time was 4.9 and the other times was 4.8 grams, and I know quarters should weigh roughly 5.6 grams. It’s not magnetic, and it’s super thin as you can see in the photos. I did read that people could cut a coin in half and glue it and that’s what I’m wanting to believe. I put my finger nail in between the gap of the coin and tried to pry it open, and I didn’t get it opened. I wanna to say it’s probably counterfeit but it could be something else and just want some opinions.
Corroded Quarter. It was in a harsh chemical which corroded the copper inner core sandwiched between the 2 clad layers.
It’s a real quarter minted in the US at the Denver mint. It’s also damaged and weighs light to do being exposed to a corrosive.
