    Looks more like something spilled on it. It being a 1972, isn't zinc, so some foreign matter.

    Not sure how we got to Lincoln cents but here's a 1941 Canada 50c with a crack developing in a nearly identical way as your 1943. Took these pics 6+ years ago so don't ask for more; I ain't digging it out of the box in the closet. The 1949 "hoof over 9" is the one called out in the guides as a (pseudo) variety.
