That is what we have to deal with on most albums. And you have been told a thousand times to not exaggerate.
I have done that with my 19th century presidential campaign medalets. Most of my pieces are raw and in a series of Eagle holders and albums, but I had to buy some pieces that were certified. Knowing that certified is very "in" with some collectors and the cost and time involved with getting items certified these days, I have left them in the holders. I print the pictures of the items, put the photos in flips and put those into the album. BTW, I know how hard it is to find some of the low mintage dates in the Nickel Three Cent Piece set. Congratulations! Completing that set is quite an accomplishment.
Well done you well deserve all the praise coming your way. Completing a set is a great accomplishment. For years I tried to assemble an 1885 mint set, barring of course the Trade Dollar. I eventually gave up because I couldn't find the 1885 three cent piece. All those that were offered to me were proofs. In the last 30 years I have seen three of the business strikes of the 1885 three cent. Two of them in auctions at Stack's and one that happens to be in the current inventory of my LCS. I am tempted to get it and swap out the coin in my type set, but then I realize that the missus and I could rent a house in Maine for a month and eat lobster every night. Decisions, decisions.
But if you rented a house in Maine for a month and ate lobster every night, at the end of that month, you'd have to quit. Whereas with the coin, you'd still have it. (I can't speculate on whether you'd still have the missus.)
Congratulations on finishing that set @Randy Abercrombie. It’s always a nice feeling of accomplishment when you complete a set.
Hey Randy, this seems like a hokey idea, but might be worth trying, if you have the time and feel inclined to do so . . . You could take the 1885 & 1887 and tuck the slabs behind the Dansco page so the coins align and show through their rear windows, and try shooting a photo that way.
Not fair to ask an old guy questions that pertain to remembering stuff... I am pretty sure I started that book in 2019. It is a two cent and three cent nickel book. I had the two cent page completed well before Covid came around and been working solid on the three cent page since then. So 3-4 years in the making..... Here was my long range thought. I am a certified coin hoarder. I thought I could build that book and focus only on the book and that would keep me from buying random coins that caught my eye... Did that plan work? Resoundingly NO!
Thanks @Randy Abercrombie I can relate to your answer, I purchase but never do I sell coin or currency. Good luck, stay healthy, be happy.
Now THAT'S a set that gets my heart thumping. If it weren't for my EAC collection I'd be working hard to complete a Nickel 3-Cent set. Well done.
