    A few years back I passed on a 93'S.
I swore there was something wrong with it.
It found its way to a local coin dealer.
I was happy to know I didn't buy it.
    Trust your gut!

Though, if I new the history behind the slab you passed, I would have snagged it in a heart beat..
    Just in recollection!

Ah, I get you. Smart strategy - Seateds don't exactly have a Morgan-sized audience but there are enough discerning collectors so good examples will always be liquid.

Seated coins bust coins trade dollars and pretty much all early us silver as well as some copper and gold is what I buy and sell. I buy Morgans because they sell tho I mostly prefer toners and I will pick up some barber coins slq walkers peace dollars etc again because I can sell it but the pre barber coinage is my love and specialty and I never have a shortage of buyers for better grade original skin coins

EDIT: Conder says he spoke w/the people who signed the slabs. Now I'm curious and shall speak to Mr. Powell who should know the truth. I would not put it past PCI to do that. Larry Briggs TRIED to buy into PCI but the deal fell through. Perhaps he got the "signature" folks to leave. All this is easily answered when I next see Larry. Interesting.

As to the death of the owner of PCI...I should be interested to know who you think the dead owner was. As far as I know, the OWNER and HER HUSBAND were alive and kicking two years ago (that's 2014).

Since I started this whole thread, I shall see Larry, and Conder (hopefully) @ the annual CONA show in Columbus in 2 months and see what he has to say about said coin/PCI signature labels....

Ask him about the gold coin guarantee, too.

Then run for the door. :)

That would be Brian Beardsley. He bought PCI from Leslie Slade in 2002 and died in 2007. His wife took over the company and tried to run it for awhile with assistance from J T Stanton. The company folded in late 2007 and the assets were sold to David Lawrence Rare Coins in mid 2008. It ran as DGS until Aug 2010 when it closed down again. The assets were sold again and it resurrected as PCI once again. That incarnation lasted about two months. It has changed hands at least twice since then with the third owers since DGS being the one that got taken to court over misrepresentation.

And yes I do plan on being at the show in Columbus.

THANKS! Shows my prejudice! I considered PCI DEFUNCT and worthless when it was sold out of the Revels family. You have jogged my memory and may poor old Brian RIP.

Mark, one of the old PCI graders, gave me a bunch of old Hallmark and PCI stuff (its in storage) a long time ago. If I ever get around to digging it out, you will be the first to see it. ;)

Another seated guy here. If you have a partial dated Seated coin, I can figure out the full date.

I'd say you got a great deal. The toning is great. Mintage of 146000 and survival rate of ~350 are low even by Seated standards. I'd say XF45.

I'm about to shift my taste from toners to 8TF... Daddy needs a new pair of shoes, encrusted with diamonds and gold ;)

8TF's are passe - everybody does 'em. :)

They are generally overpriced and more common than typically thought; I believe they pretty much survived the Pittman melt, having been long since thrown into circulation or saved as first issues. Fun to attribute, though - you can get the whole bunch memorized easily enough.

Yeah, it's something I haven't delved into yet though and need to get down pat plus, with my luck, I'm sure I'll start plucking 44's and rare 14's in no time ;)

Get the book on 8TF Morgan's...it's a quick study and 44's are out there unattributed. They do not seem as common as posted above - a least from the bags of circulated Morgan's I get to search when time permits.

Unfortunately, VF/XF O/CC, O/S, Micro "O", etc don't seem to bring much money over silver. The latest group I sent to Great Expectations went for $2-$4 below the wholesale price of a common date circulated coin that I paid to cherrypick. Can't get rich (time/money) that way! All I have to show for my loss was the thrill of finding them unattributed at a rock bottom price. :(

Keep in mind, the most motivated cherrypickers in VAMming are seeing every new 8TF on Ebay the day they are listed....you'll see a lot of A1d, A1e, A1f and A2's (the common ones), but little else. The place to cherrypick 8TF's is from small dealer websites.

Yup. Good thing I'm not that big on ebay hunting unless a buddy throws me the occasional bone ;) I do occasionally go sniping but I just can't stand sitting there for hours looking through thousands of listings. Give me a good show or a run of b&m hopping over that any day. But I get your point :)
