1821 Matron Head One Cent N-1 PCGS VF-20. This coin has helped me solidify my goals on early copper. 1. Lower catalog value coins (generally Rarity 1, 2 or 3) will be acceptable to me down to the grade of VF-20. But I'll still be considering XF or AU. 2. Higher catalog value coins (generally Rarity 3 or 4) will be acceptable to me down to the grade of F-12. (Yes, R-3 is in both categories.) But I'll still be considering VF. 3. Coins dated in the 1790's I currently do not consider for purchase. I've already got my type set coins in that date range and that's good enough for now.
VF matron head cents are pleasant, without paying up too much. I've never had any graded ones, but I've had plenty of raw ones. I like when you post these - thanks for sharing.
It's good to have standards but I go by what Groucho Marx said when the matron indignantly challenged him for having no standards: "I have standards and if you don't like these, I have others."
