Apologize that the photos are not as good as many that are posted on CoinTalk. Photos below of ungraded 1945 Merc Dime that I hope has an appealing chance of full bands designation if I send it for grading. Greatly appreciate your educated thoughts/opinions.

I think it's got to be sent in . . . on the best of days, yes . . . on the worst of days, no . . . be sure you pick the right day.

That and make sure that it is UNC. The center bands look like they have been flattened a little.

Minor rim dings and one on star between one and united. Nice coin MS-63. Good luck.

I think the coin is very nice but I also think those center bands are too flat for the FB.

I believe it would qualify at FB, but the cost of sending it in for grading will probably eat any profit you might see from selling it. Very common year for high grade dimes.

Actually not, look up the value for a 1945 FB Merc.

And any guidance on picking the right day? I know what you mean, though. I think the coin has about a 10-15% chance of getting full bands, assuming the grader also gives a MS grade, no details, and doesn't opine that whatever crease there is has been razor bladed.

Yeh, I do wish the center bands had more curve to them, but I looked at quite a few FB designated 1945 Mercs at the PCGS website, and quite a few have relatively flat center bands with dubious creases for band separation.

I'd take MS-60, so long as they determine FB. I believe the 1945 Merc dime has to be at least MS-60 for them to award FB -- no AU (or lower) FB allowed.

Hope you're right about it qualifying at FB. Plenty of profit if FB.

You'll know if it was the right day when you get it back.

Lol. Well, I guess there are 5 potential outcomes. 1) Coin gets lost in the mail enroute to or return from the grading company; 2) Coin is body bagged; 3) Coin is slabbed & returned as genuine, details and no FB; 4) Coin is slabbed & returned with MS grade but no FB; 5) Coin is slabbed & returned with MS grade AND FB. Outcomes 3 and 4 are the most likely, but I have to try and see if I can get Outcome 5. If outcome no. 4, I won't be totally disappointed -- having a gradeable 1945 Merc dime with a close-call FB is not a bad consolation prize, especially after how many 1945 Mercs I have searched/looked at to find a coin with even a remote chance at FB.

Looks flattened a little to me as well.
Would this knock it out of the running for FB
These are the coins that people doctor.
