Full square nails are pre 1800's, then the rectangular nail lasted until the 1880's, The round wire nails started in the 1880's and have lasted till today, as they are the easiest to manufacture. PS square and rectangular nails have a much stronger holding power VS the round nail. You can still buy them, but they are quite expensive.
